Comm revival! 26/01/15

So this comm is pretty dead, but various people have expressed an interest in reviving it! If anyone had any ideas regarding this, e.g. advertisement, please discuss it here, and we'll see if we can get it going again :)

\0/ Missed you so much, bb!!

I could take a stab at making graphics such as banners. I'm no artist, but I've got Photoshop and I'm not afraid to use it.

(Anonymous) 2015-01-26 04:18 pm (UTC)(link)
SA: Maybe put up a "Discuss Chapters 62-65 here" post for the time being, see how it goes?

(Anonymous) 2015-01-26 04:29 pm (UTC)(link)

Yay! A banner would be awesome!

Also, I'm wondering whether it isn't worth it to have a kind of... main discussion post with subthreads for topics, instead of creating a post for each topic that comes up? And then cutting them off at a certain number of comments? Just to keep the discussion neat in one place. And then maybe have separate posts for, idk, weekly fandom news/meta roundups or fic recs or??

AYRT: That's not a bad idea. Kind of the way

AYRT: That's not a bad idea. Kind of the way <user=wankgate> organizes posts, with dedicated threads and links in the OP to each? Although, at least at first, the thread links may not be needed because there'll be much less traffic.

D'oh. [community profile] wankgate.

Yeah, from a surface look at that comm that's pretty much what I mean! I think it's easier not to miss things that way, maybe? If everyone just knows that "this is the post we're hanging out in just now".

What do you think, O mod? :)

(Anonymous) 2015-01-26 08:56 pm (UTC)(link)

I hear you on spoilers, but, hm... My general feeling is that the spoiler-free post will die as soon as the new chapter is out, more or less, because newly revealed canon tends to dominate discussion in the aftermath of the chapter reveal.

I could be wrong, so it would be good to hear what the other nonnies think!

If we just have one big discussion post, we can have a thread for like NEW CHAPTER SPOILERS, so people going into that thread talk freely and the others avoid it? And then, if the others want to talk about new chapter spoilers in the other threads, they can just white them out? For like, a few days to a week, before it becomes a free for all? Or is that too much hassle...

(Anonymous) 2015-01-26 10:31 pm (UTC)(link)

I guess first let's see what the other nonnies say!

It is probably a good idea to eventually put the main discussion post on top, though, especially since this post we're in now has effectively become the suggestions/hashing things out post. Everything said in the current sticky one is also repeated on the sidebar, but also we can make it so that each new post has a header containing some basic information etc?

(Anonymous) 2015-01-28 10:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey! So, given the lack of objections from the general nonny populace, maybe let us try to make the header post and see what that looks like? Then we can move on to the next stage in these proceedings, which is to advertise this thing as much as we can?

(Anonymous) 2015-01-29 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
I keep wanting to address you as nonny, though you are actually logged in! It's just a polite term of address in my head by now, I think...

Anyway, o mod, a few observations from hanging out in the discussion thread:

Whiting out spoilers is only going to be necessary in the threads not clearly marked as containing spoilers, right? The current header is a little unclear on this (maybe?), so it may sound to someone like the entire new chapter discussion will have to be conducted in spoiler tags? Am I overthinking this? It might be best to clarify this just to be on the safe side, I don't know.

Speaking of marking threads, I've had nothing but positive feelings about this layout so far, but now I've noticed that, in this setup, thread titles are pretty hard to spot. I didn't realize one of those threads had a title until I tried replying to it. Is this a standard layout thing? I feel like it could make discussion more difficult if thread titles aren't obvious, but maybe they're only not obvious to me?

This comm is so totally getting ready to fly off on the wings of freedom I am so excite (I know, I'm really subtle about my enthusiasm, you couldn't tell at all)

(Anonymous) 2015-01-30 08:08 am (UTC)(link)
Thread titles are much more obvious now, to me at least! Yay. And, yes, let's see how people feel about spoilers...

Thank you for all the work on this comm, mod nonny! <3

List of people worth approaching for advertisement or potential membership

(Anonymous) 2015-01-26 04:38 pm (UTC)(link)

Some of these have many followers and are into writing discussions and meta so they would be both good advertisers and members, others have few followers but would make good members while some are not big on discussion but seem like the might agree to reblog an advertisement if asked politely.

Other nonnies, feel free to add to this list.

That "um" is very mysterious to me, nonny =)

They're awful. But funny. But awful. But funny. But awful. But funny.

Um, this is somewhat awkward! But I happen to be number three on this list. You have my sword, etc, for what it's worth.

I'm also on the recruit list despite already being a participant, hahaha.

(Anonymous) 2015-01-27 03:38 am (UTC)(link)
I'm number two on the list. I'm interested.

(Anonymous) 2015-01-27 07:40 am (UTC)(link)
It's a party! XD

(Anonymous) 2015-01-27 11:01 pm (UTC)(link)
And maybe I'll learn to reply to the correct post *face palm*

(Anonymous) 2015-01-27 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Hah! What do you think of the suggestions further up in this post, though? The idea of one big discussion post in which we hang out until the comment count gets too high? And for that active post to be the one pinned on top of the comm?

Advertising the comm

(Anonymous) 2015-01-31 04:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Given that everything seems to be in place for a functioning comm, I guess soon it's time to start spreading the word? Should we do this when the new chapter spoilers hit, so as to ride the wave of renewed interest in discussion?

Mod nonny, is there any particular text you'd like on the announcement?

Do we have any graphics nonnies who would want to do an advert thing? Or edit an anime still/ manga panel to insert some motivational "let's discuss SnK yay" statement? Like this one or something:

You may be right! What do you think about when we should start advertising this thing?

Re: Advertising the comm

(Anonymous) 2015-02-04 04:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Before that happens, I wanted to ask about the information that is on the sidebar of the comm - is that still relevant, are weekly rec posts going to be a thing and are volunteers still needed to run them?
