Sorry for being so late with this rec post! I’ll make it a little longer than usual this time around.noero — “Indulgent”
Levi often gives Erwin a massage, and Erwin one day offers to return the favor. Levi has only ever known sex as a tool, as a game, but this feels like neither… Levi realizes it’s not just the oddly gentle way Erwin maneuvers about him, but that it’s
Erwin and that he
wants to touch Levi. This is what renders him helpless, at his mercy.
2,687 words.singie — “Hand to Hand”
Pre-slash; based on but divergent from A Choice with No Regrets
. Levi, too keyed up to sleep out in the field on his first mission, joins Erwin on a tree branch. After some bantering about their difference in height, Erwin presses his palm flat against Levi’s. Fluffy and mildly humorous; not much UST, although you can find some between the lines. 1,306 words.tokiNOOO (tokino) — “The Still of the Silence”
Established relationship. After the devastation of the 57th Expedition, Erwin knocks on Levi’s door to see how he’s doing. Levi’s grief over his squad manifests in an anger at Erwin that literally leaves him speechless — and violent. And, once Erwin bests him in the fight Levi starts with him, looking for a different sort of physical outlet for his rage. 1,807 words.angriff (refusals) — “amechania”
An alternative take on chapters 49–51.
Levi’s lack of direction came not from aimlessness but from infinite inertia. He was the immovable object to Erwin’s unstoppable force. “Sir, Commander Erwin Smith has officially been reported missing in action a-and… and presumed dead.”
Levi is no scientist or scholar, but he’s familiar enough with the way things work to know that it’s impossible for two such concepts to coexist at the same time.
And, with that, an injured, infuriated, terrified Levi goes out to find him: It’s not enough just to know that [the Titans] are dead; Levi has to be the one to personally take everything from them just like they have taken everything from him.
The author knows their characters and nails them perfectly. 7,867 words. NanakiBH — “Fulfillment”
Erwin turns control over to Levi for one evening, and Levi wants him on his knees.
[Levi’s] actions spoke loud enough for him to understand what intentions he had, but it was the heat in his gaze, the firm set of his shoulders, and the tension in his muscles that really told him in what way Levi needed him tonight.
He wasn’t going to make him fight for it. They fought for everything else in their damned lives.
2,851 words.DaftDays — “Hands off”
Levi, who’s wanted Erwin for years, watches him train early one morning from the shadows at the edge of the sparring field. Erwin, noticing him, invites him to spar, as they’ve done many times before. But this time is like none before:
Levi has never known he has a thing for being overpowered, not before he met Erwin. If it was anyone else, Levi would be fighting for his life, but now all he can feel is arousal, strong and powerful, all the pent up lust and frustration he’s been storing inside him rushing to the surface now that he finally has the commander where he wants him.
I’ll add only that the tags include “dubcon,” “frottage,” and “Levi comes in his pants.” And that there may be a sequel eventually. 2,208 words.Metallic_Sweet — the Anabasis series
These fics, Levi POV and readable as either Eruri or gen (and each as standalone), cover his five years in the Survey Corps from the fall of Wall Maria to just after the Clash of the Titans. The writing juxtaposes emotional devastation, dry humor, and keen characterization. The author’s take on Levi's cleanliness quirk is obsessive-compulsion with an edge of paranoia, borne of horrendous childhood experience and intensified by later ordeals. Aside from canon-typical violence, there is famine, non-sexual bedsharing, drinking, hurt/comfort, moral ambiguity, and, rather canonically, “Shitty Situations and Shittier Coping Mechanisms.”
andtheheir — “Find Hell With Me”
- “Xanadu” (3,919 words; T) — The SC officers watch the refugees be marched in from Wall Maria, then marched out to their deaths. Afterward they go into Utopia to beg the Sina nobles for money at a sumptuous banquet. All the while, Erwin and Levi grow closer.
“So the swine hide away and gorge themselves,” he'd said over dinner after a particularly late mapping session.
“Some do,” Erwin answered, slicing a small bite of the steak on his plate. “But none of them have ever seen the open sky.”
- “Xibalba” (3,557 words; M) — This fic, named for the K’iche’ Maya underworld (literally “place of fear”), is set at an unspecified time in the four years after “Xanadu.” Levi, thrown by a titan, spends a week in an abandoned farmhouse with a wound to his back he can’t reach. He sinks deeper and deeper into fever, hallucination, and agonizing sepsis before he’s rescued. He deals with convalescence about as well as you’d expect, and with caretaking attempts from Hange, Petra, and Erwin even less well.
Levi had closed his eyes, reached back inside of his mind to the shredded bits that litter the memory of before he was Humanity’s Strongest, and found only dust and ash. Dirty, like everything that he was and still could be again.
- “Xenophon” (7,880 words; T) — After Erwin loses his arm, Levi — with the help of Moblit, Armin, Jean, and Sasha — takes over the running of the Survey Corps. Which he desperately does not want to do, because
“I’m not a fucking replacement —”Oh, and as for that keen characterization I mentioned earlier? Try this on: “Okay,” Moblit says, and he’s been around Hange too long: he’s developed that ability to say one thing but clearly communicate he doesn’t believe a single word that just came out of Levi’s mouth.
As soon as the word leaves his mouth, it’s like the floor has been ripped out from underneath him, and he has to catch himself against the desk to prevent his knees from buckling. He feels like he’s going to blow apart, fall in upon himself, simultaneously burn up and evaporate into nothing. His vision tunnels, becomes a single speck within blackness, and he has to clench his right hand tightly around the side of his own neck to ground himself, to stop himself from breaking more of Erwin’s things.
Levi’s early days with the Survey Corps and Erwin (they’re “Rivaille” and “Irvin” in this fic), jossed of course by ACWNR
. The fic opens with a trial for Levi that echoes Eren’s in canon, as do his first days with the Survey Corps. You can cut the UST with a knife: in Levi and Erwin’s physical altercations, in their slowly developing mutual respect and trust, and, especially, in a haircut scene that is far hotter than many sex scenes I’ve read. Also, holy goddamn loyalty kink — including a formally given oath, and it’s not what you’d expect. Bonus: a nonbinary, level-headed Hange who watches out for Levi. 11,979 words.
