Gen, part 1: Eight recs

island_of_reilkhepria — "Outsider" (Teen and up)
A short (813-word) fic set after Chapter 50. Annie's out of her crystal and in chains with her limbs severed and regenerating. Armin, on the other side of the bars, asks her questions. Annie's hardly at her best, but she fucks quite capably with his head.
anonymous — "Breaking Point" (Mature, for violence)
Armin drives off his bullies by making a blood pact with the powers of darkness, who grant him a large protector named Berholdt. Mikasa is alarmed; Armin reassures her that he's given the demons no more than one drop of blood, so that he'll have just enough power to protect himself. But then Shinganshina falls, and there's so much more threatening him and his friends — including the temptation to fall deeper and deeper into evil. WIP, up to part four. 3,776 words to date.
anonymous — "Kinsman" (Teen and up)
Written immediately after Chapter 56. Levi confronts Captain Ackerman while trying to rescue Eren and Historia — and loses his characteristic sangfroid. WIP (though likely to go unfinished due to jossing); 782 words.
anonymous — "Monster" (Mature, for violence)
In which Jean takes Annie's place as the titan in the Forest of Giant Trees and at Stohess. The brilliance of this fic is how the author takes Jean's canon traits and lines of dialogue and fits them perfectly into a villain role. WIP, 3,878 words to date, with the last of three parts to come.
anonymous — "Preventative Medicine" (General audiences)
When Carla contracts plague, Grisha desperately experiments with titan cells — and ends up vaccinating everybody in Shinganshina. As it turns out, the vaccine has side effects… 1,649 words so far (author may or may not continue it eventually).
anonymous — "Where the Heart Is" (Mature, for violence)
Eren fails to save Mikasa from the kidnappers, who kill him. She's being taken into the city when her captors run afoul of Levi, pre-Survey Corps. He and a few of his associates take her in. 1,988 words; never finished but still worth reading.
daikonjou — "clad in black, weeping Eve" (General audiences, shading into Teen and up)
Ten years later, Jean still carries Marco's bone in his pocket. And Marco's ghost stays with him. A well-written fic full of gut punches; the ninth-year anecdote in particular got me hard in the feels. 5,032 words.
Kyogre — "Mother of All Hangovers" (Teen and up — link updated from SnK Kink to AO3 version)
After graduating from training, the 104th get very drunk. And the last anyone sees of the Shinganshina Trio, they are in full 3DMG, and are hurtling themselves off Wall Rose, screaming something about seeing the world. They come back a week later. There are people outside the Walls, Armin concludes blankly. And these people apparently supplied them with clothing, miscellaneous travel items and a whole lot of booze — the empty bottles Eren retrieves pile up. Then it gets even better. 5,298 words.
