(above anon who was freaking out here)

Yeah, the more I look at that page the less it looks like Jean is the victim. Though you can never tell and I won't be relaxed until I see the baby being fine in August.

To me it looks like there are equal chances of it being Armin or Mikasa saving him. Armin is reaching under his cloak, but that long slash of blood seems more likely the product of a blade like the one on Mikasa's 3dmg. But who knows. I'd like to see either thing.

Anyway this really seems to be the "Jean will have to make his moral decision" moment. And as much as I sided with him during the previous chapter I agree that he'll go with the sensible decision and end up shooting somebody. But he won't like it.

Also I finally understood what the heckie that "anti-human 3dmg" thingie was. It's basically 3dmg with guns instead of blades. It's clear now that the upper echelons of the MP are definitely in contact with the mysterious "Titan village", or at least the Ape Titan, in case people still had doubts.

I got into the Levi vs. Kanye duel much more than I thought I would. It had this Western vibe to it, with Kanye being all boastful and mocking and Levi being Levi and the whole scene in the bar, I was just wow all the time. I don't like Levi as a Captain but as an action hero he's sure amazing. Btw, Kanye woke up unscathed from a shoot right in the chest, which is another score for him being Monkey Trouble, or at least some other sort of Titan (the Ape Titan didn't know what 3dmg was, right?).

I didn't see that ending coming and neither did Eren, lol. Also hello Eren and Historia, nice to see you two again. I'm happy nobody ate Eren. Mostly for the person who would attempt such a thing. I'm reasonably sure nobody can just go and eat Eren with impunity. Hell, it has already been attempted, and he was short a arm and a leg at the time, and it still didn't stick.

Armin is reaching under his cloak

And in the following panel you can see that his arm is extended and he's angrily taking aim. But, like you said, it's impossible to tell yet whether he or Mikasa killed the enemy fighter.

Levi vs. Kanye

CRYING

Also, are they really going to make us wait until August?! I mean, I know Isayama deserves a vacation like the rest of us, but I can't wait that fucking long, it's going to kill me....

The magazine's not on break, don't worry. The current chapter was also the July chapter despite being published in June. So the August issue will come out at the start of July. It's confusing but it's always been like that.

How do you know the MP are in contact with the Titan Village? Did I miss something big?

I just assumed that Kanye was wearing a bullet proof vest rather than him being a titan, since there's no blood to indicate a wound/steam for healing. Though now you say it, that would be interesting. It would also mean it's hidden from those who want to eat Eren? Since I doubt he's worth more alive and running free than as food.

tl;dr

Above anon, about Ape Titan and MP.

Aaah, I didn't really explain that one, did I. Also upon rereading it does look less like Titan healing and more like he just wasn't hurt at all. It also doesn't make a lot of sense for him to be a Titan if he was around when Levi was little(r) and he's supposed to have given his surname not only to Levi but also to Mikasa's parents. The connection there is so mysterious. So now I'm beginning to think Kanye-man is just a pawn.

The connection I made was that the Ape Titan took Mike's 3dmg with the obvious intention of studying it, and some chapters later the MP appears with a version of 3dmg especially studied to be used against humans. It might be a coincidence, but it might also not be.

My current operative theory: the Titan shifters have a huge plan that has been in the works for probably the entire time humans lived within the Walls, but was set in motion only recently. A Titan shifter was sent to live within the Walls, probably very early on, possibly at the exact same time the humans settled within it, to make sure that when the plan was set in motion nobody with power within the Walls would be in the way. They formed a series of very solid connections, to the point that by now they probably have enough power to move the MP like a bunch of puppets. I'm not sure any of the higher ups actually knows this person is a Titan shifter and an enemy, and if they knew this person might be promising stuff like protection and help. This person isn't our friend Kanye nor the King himself, but it might turn out to be somebody we've already met.

I also sort of have a bigger theory about what this Titan shifters's plan might be but I have ranted enough.

Same here. I've relaxed considerably since the first spoiler pics and am pretty convinced right now that Armin will save Jean, but even so full confirmation is needed to really let your guard down. I also don't understand a lick of Japanes, but judging from the pixiv art based on this chapter, Japanese fans also seem to think that Armin is the one to save Jean.

Yeah, Jean's never gonna enjoy it and will always feel horrible about it, but he'll probably grit his teeth now and do it because he realizes that if he doesn't he's basically making his friends suffer in his stead. Or that he might even endanger them with his passivity.

I don't really get how the MPs have contact with Ape Titan either (who had no idea what 3DMG was and was even unsure about which language the wall people speak). Can you elaborate on your theory?

Didn't Kanye (heh), survive the shot because he was holding that chair in from of him (plus he probably also wore some padded vest). Though the MP/Reiss might have really a shifter with them if Hange is right and they want to eat Eren. Agreed, Levi vs Kanye was fun (and I enjoy how hammy K is), though a lot of Levi haters don't care for him getting this much screentime. I admit that I also hope, though, that Levi will not get so much face time through the whole rest of the manga. He may be popular but he is definitely not the main characters.

Poor Historia, this whole arc is an emotional roller coaster for her. This chapter confirms to me what I've started to suspect recently: she will probably be torn between going to her father's side and staying loyal to the SL. It probably doesn't help that she's been so depressed and listless recently. Her only stronger reaction previous to this chapter was her fear at having to be queen (and her brief moment of anger/resentment when Levi was kinda chocking her). The good thing is that now she'll be able to make a real choice, since "obey or I will hunt you down" is only one in theory, but not if you have any self-preservation.

On a related not, Eren's friendship with her will probably become important in the coming chapters. Maybe she'll choose to stick with the SL because of her friends and especially Eren, or maybe she will leave them but still somehow create an opportunity for Eren to flee. Basically, at this point I expect that they will somehow save themselves and learn some Reiss secrets along the way.

Lol, I've just realized I've got so much in the habit of calling him some variation of "Kanye" that it's hard for me to write "Kaney" now even when I want to.

As to what's the MP/Ape Titan connection I answered above. It's flimsy but I like huge overreaching theories of all the things.

Poor Historia indeed, there's definitely something complicated in the works for her. Reiss did seem honestly regretful when he had her mother killed in front of her, so his repentance might be honest, but it might also be a ploy. Erwin's plan of having her become Queen might be crazy enough to be brilliant, but it might also be crazy full stop. Historia is level-headed, but she's also been through a lot, so let's hope she's able to understand what's going on fully and work everything out.

Right now I do think Eren and Historia taking a third option and saving themselves some way or another is the more probable outcome.
