Subthread OP: The "Nice Guy" characterization for Jean is so frustratingly simplistic. It's of a piece with other SnK fanon characterizations: Eren as a dimwit psycho, Armin as either evil mastermind or hapless woobie, Levi as having a heart of gold under a gruff exterior.
I hated Jean at first, but he's really grown on me (though I wouldn't call him my favorite... it's probably Armin). If it turns out that Isayama isn't faking us out, though I'm convinced he is, I'm going to be devastated.
I would love it if you made a post here about your headcanon for Jean's character arc! Personally I think posts dedicated to single characters and how they tick would be awesome.
